The Simple Life

I'm a woman of simple tastes; good food, good friends, healthy family, creativity, and the chance to enjoy these blessings! And on top of all that: a relationship with a loving God! I cannot think of more I need.

This year has been amazing! We had struggled so the last few years with some tough circumstances, and this year we were given a 'rest'! I am so grateful for that! And whether God chooses to go on blessing us so richly, or if He plans to allow some more 'challenges', what I have most enjoyed is this Christmas time.

For the first time in many, many years I have had a sense of peace; supernatural peace, and a lot of time of quiet reflection to ponder the beauty that is Christmas. I am filled with the wonder of God coming to earth as a child, not to a palace, but to a stable. I don't need to focus on the theological implications to appreciate the beauty of this most amazing gift. The gift is love...in its purest form. A love that staggers the imagination: that God would send His son to...a stable...for ME!

It is enough for me to bathe in the glory of the light that came down in the form or a tiny, REAL baby. I remember how I felt when my son was born, and the intense love I felt holding him for the first time. It was so powerful! And God was willing to send His son to earth to be born, so that Jesus could eventually take my place on the cross. How much would that mean that God loved ME??? WOW!!!

I don't need a choir to sing, or a great orator to help me see Christmas...I just need to close my eyes and picture that stable and the look that must have been on the faces of Mary, Joseph, and the others that had the privilege to witness their Savior being born into the world...on a quiet, starry night in Bethlehem!
