If I Were President

If I were President…

• I would stop all this crazy spending!
• I would voluntarily take a pay-cut to $100,000 a yr, plus living expenses. I would cut the salaries of all my cabinet and staff to $100,000. And, I would suggest that all Congress do the same.
• I would never sign any spending bill that came to my desk with earmarks! And I mean, NEVER!!! If Congress wants to spend your money without accountability…let them make it happen…without Executive assistance.
• I would propose a 3 year plan to disband the IRS and end the income tax. I suggest we go back to a luxury/property tax only, and cut spending for ‘the arts’, and other non-essential items. I’m sure there is plenty to get rid of.
• I would construct a wall along our northern and southern boarders that goes way down into the ground, since after watching ‘Homeland Security USA’ I learned that some have managed to tunnel under the boarders to avoid detection.
• I would start a campaign in schools to teach children to become self-sufficient adults, dealing with things like…balancing a check book, how to find/and keep a job, why it is important to build a support system around yourself, long-term goal setting, the value of protecting your reputation, relationship skills,…etc.
• I would introduce a bill that would bring back Phonix to schools, that would teach study skills, and that would require more of students to graduate. I would also introduce a bill that would end federal funding to schools in major districts, and fund only schools where the community was unable to fund their schools all by themselves. It would seek to return all control of schools to the local community, and end government involvement as much as possible, thus, saving money, and making it more likely that parents would feel empowered to be able to change what they didn’t like about their local schools.
• I would seek to limit the level of ‘protection’ a union could provide, by introducing a bill that would make it illegal for a union to include clauses that would protect workers from being fired for cause, and obvious abuses of ‘time off’, but that would require employers of more than 50 employees to provide good medical insurance, and other benefits after an employee had been with the company for more than 3 months. Companies that showed a habit of trying to get around this by only hiring temporary workers would be subject to heavy fines.
• I would ask state and local governments to scour their books of any old laws, or new ones that limited everyday citizen's power to handle their own day-to-day issues. For example…reversing laws that prohibit the public from performing maintenance in the form of patching side streets or small pot-holes (with the proper materials) or cutting back trees from road ways, as their skill level allows. Neighbors need to be encouraged to work together to solve their local issues, and not have to wait for ‘the government’ to come in and fix these items (which is far more costly, and takes too long.)
• I would encourage private corporations to sponsor first-rate orphanages in areas where sufficient foster parents are unavailable. I would work to get tax-breaks for companies that showed that they could provide not only a well maintained, well staffed and cheerful environment, but that could demonstrate an ability to provide a family atmosphere as well. (Maybe in the form of small farms in the country…where ‘dorm parents’ could run each ‘household’ like a family.)
• I would also encourage the art community to reach out to local schools and provide free after school programs for kids who really wanted to learn about art. I would require a strict policy for ‘age appropriateness,’ but would be willing to fund these programs directly in the form of grants that could be applied for by the school, and would require a full accounting of how the money was spent.
• I would ask that Congress pass laws that anyone caught stealing from the public be prosecuted, with a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison for anyone convicted. I would encourage them not to set a maximum limit. Financial restitution should also be required, as able.

I could go on…but you have to be getting tired of reading this by now. So I’ll cut you a break!
